Art class at East Elementary is mainly focused on production of art, as well as art criticism and analysis, and art history. Students paint, draw, weave, sculpt, and print at least one time during the school year. The projects are based on their abilities and what grade level they are in. During the process of creating their art, students look at other artworks and artists for inspiration. Through collaboration with their classroom teacher some cross-curricular connections are made, when applicable, and used in their projects, to help students retain information taught in their classroom. Art class helps children acquire a better understanding of art as a way of learning about themselves and the world around them.
